I’ve been doing photography for a few years but I don’t really know much about lenses and how the camera sensor works. I have a canon digital rebel xs and I want to buy a standard lens. My photography teacher said I should get a canon 35mm wide angle lens and he tried to explain to me why that was the standard lens for my camera and how the camera sensor is cropped, but I still don’t really understand it. Can you please try to explain it to me?

I need to know what size my camera lens is so that way I can buy another lens for it. I cannot decide whether it is a 55mm or a 58mm. My camera model is Canon Rebel XTi EOS DSLR camera. Please help!!
Where can I find the size of the lens?(i.e. on the camera or on the lens that I am currently using?)

i’m pretty new to photography, and am in the process of purchasing lenses, and looking to buy a super wide angle lens. i don’t want to buy a 15mm lens for 0 just yet, and bought an add on lens a few weeks ago. what exactly is the difference between a 15mm lens and a .18x or .42x add on lens. i understand the quality is a lot worse on the cheaper add on lenses, but i’m just curious!
