What is a good lens that's good for taking close up pics but has a wide angle to take big large groups?

June 23rd, 2011

I just got into photography and still learning. Recently I started working in clubs taking club photos an the lens that I have kinda makes it hard to do so. I find myself having to step back farther just to get good shot. Im looking for a lens that can do real close quarters shooting and has the ability to take a shot big enough for a wedding. I’m leaning towards a 10/20 or a22/80… My camera is a canon7d

What is a good beginning photojournalist lens?

    June 2nd, 2011

I might be for too much at the moment, but I’m looking for a good, cheap (0 or less) lens for my Canon Rebel XT to start out as a freelance journalist.

I’ve done photography casually before and am still learning a lot about how everything works, so I’m not particularly well-versed in actually using the terminology. However, these are my main complaints:
    - My lens never seems to be able to pick up much light. I’ve been trying to find f/2.8 lenses, but they all seem very expensive.
    - A lot of "photojournalist" lenses seem to measure 18-50 mm, yet when I took photos at a publication before, my constant problem was that I couldn’t get close enough. Should I switch to a zoom lens then? In which case, should I get a wide-angle and a zoom lens? The problem is that getting both with f/2.8 would make it expensive, so should I only get one of that quality or both?

    Thank you for the help.

Wide Angle Lens for Nikon d5100, any suggestions?

          May 20th, 2011

          Hi there!
I’m really hoping the photography community can help me out. I’ve decided to invest in a Nikon d5100, but I’m really into architectural photography and landscapes. I’ve heard that a wide angle would really help capture all the scenery. I just don’t know that much about lens…and I’m still confused, what’s an af or dx? What’s a mounting type? I would truly appreciate all the great help. Thank you so much in advance!

                    Which camera lens to buy?

                    March 22nd, 2011

Am going to buy a DSLR (Canon rebel t2i ) for the first time. I initially planned to buy it with the kit 18-55 lens and then later buy the wide angle (and much more expensive 10-22 lens). However, if instead of the kit lens I just buy a better standard zoom like the 15-85, will that kind of cover the role of the 10-22 as well? This may sound like a silly question, but will the loss of the focal range of 10mm to 14mm prevent me from taking typical wide angle shots in the absence of the 10-22? Please help..I think I need to understand better the concept of wide angle photography..
